Sir,
On the 5th October, 1889 we forwarded for the perusal of your Chamber a pamphlet detailing fully the hardships and difficulties which surrounded our trade of steamers running between this Port and Fântow, owing to the oppressive nature of the Opium Ordinance. We also asked for the support of your Chamber to help us in obtaining redress of the evils set forth in the pamphlet.
In your reply dated 12th October 1889 you informed us that the question has been fully discussed by your Committee and as a preliminary measure the Hon'ble Phineas Ryrie was requested to...
